Week 2: Cultural and Ethical Considerations in International Business Introduction This week, you will focus on how a country’s culture affects businesses and business practices. Culture is explored in terms of values, norms, religious and ethical systems, language, education, and behavior and performance in the workplace. You will also examine the importance of cross-cultural literacy for managers and the impact of culture on competitive advantage. Based upon these cultural considerations, you will go on to consider ethics in global business, which can affect areas such as employment practices, human rights, environmental pollution, corruption, and moral obligations. Ethics becomes an issue across cultures because of differing political systems, economic systems, legal systems, and cultural values. Differences in culture and ethics can occur across countries as well as within countries. Recall a time you have traveled outside your home area, whether to another country or simply to another area inside your home country. What differences did you notice in language or types of religions? What differences in the types of businesses or advertising were evident? Learning Outcomes By the end of this week, you will be able to: Assess and describe the impact of culture on an organization's structure, management and control systems, marketing mix, and distribution channels Identify the key components and implications of ethics in a global business environment Reading Course Text: International business. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
