1. Explain how sociocultural differences create problems for Walt Disney in opening parks overseas. (Points: 13) I believe that some sociocultural differences are major factors for Walt Disney when opening parks overseas. Disney design structure is to satisfy the American culture and the way we spend our money in theme parks. When Disney decides to open a park overseas they look at their culture, customs and traditions when designing and building their parks. Take China for example; to avoid problems of culture differences an attempted to incorporate the rules of Feng Shui in the park. For instance “a bend was put in a walkway near the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort entrance so good "qi"(chi) energy wouldn't flow into the South China Sea” (2010). Disney also suffers a decline in attendance in their parks overseas due to the cost for entrance to the parks and for overestimating the daily capacity limitation due to overcrowding issue at some of their parks.
