I plan on using the variable "x" for this mathematical game. Example 1: - - - = x2 1x 1 x 1 Example 2: - -( - ) - = x2 1 x 1 x 1 1 Example 3: x 2 -1-x 2 +x=x-1 Example 4: x-1=x-1 The reason that number one could not be used is: if the one was used it would end up with 1-1 as a denominator. This would make the equation undefined. (Step 2)…On the left hand side of x-1 the common denominator needs to be found. (Step 3)… Distribute the left side & multiply each side by x-1 to eliminate the fraction.

Unformatted text preview: ...... there you have it. .That is why it works for every number except for 1 : the number game could be like this take a number xsquare it x^2 add 2 multiplied by original number to it x^2 + 2x then add 1. .. X^2 + 2x + 1 Now divide this number by original number plus 1 (x^2+2x+1)/(x+1) Now subtract original number to get yes this game using skill of simplifying rational expressions. The game will not work for x = -1...
