African Americans have come a long way in the workforce, especially because in the past blacks were involved in slavery. However even though we have been through a lot of slavery, the workplace is even more diverse as it has been in years. Even though African Americans have come a long way in the workplace, they still face lots of problems every day in the business world. Because the business world is so heavenly driven by popularity especially when it comes to education and African Americans not being able to afford to go to high tech schools that is a major factor and setback for American Americans. For example it is rare that African Americans could afford to go to Harvard or Yale or any other university because those are expensive universities that a lot of businesses recruit from and because of that factor it already rules out a lot of the African Americans out of the equation because they can’t afford it. The equal rights law was created to help protect issues such as this. According to the “lizlirary”, the equal right amendment protects the rights and helps stop any discrimination to include race, sex, religion, sex, age or national origin. This amendment help protect the African Americans in the workplace and it is diffidently shown in today’s economy. A big problem that African Americans have is that they seem not to get a lot of promotions as the Caucasians. Even though most are qualified, they seem to stay in the average position for many years, and find it very difficult to advance their self to higher positions especially when it comes to corporate jobs. The labor statistics states that most of the higher paying positions are held by male Caucasians, so even if the title is hold by an African American they still don’t get the same compensation as a Caucasians would. In an article entitled “African American in the

Workplace”, it indicates that in 1995 about 40 percent of the senior managers of Fortune 1000 industrial and Fortune 500 companies were Caucasian and about 96 percent of all were males. (Chima, Wharton “African Americans in the Workplace”).
