Kelly Legner #6 pg 22 Professionalism Professionalism has evolved more in the last ten years. In accounting, a person used to not have to have a degree to work and now they require at least a bachelors if not a masters in some areas. In 2001, Illinois required 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA. This was put in place to make sure students knew more and had a better understanding of what was required and what accounting is about. Enron really opened up some eyes on regulation and laws. A person needs to have experience and knowledge and if they don’t know the answer then they need to find out the correct response before they consult with clients and give them false information.

Unformatted text preview: Information is changing all the time so CPE are required so accountants are on top of the newest information that is available so they can consult with their clients. Accountants need to have a good set of ethics. If the accountant knows, their employer is doing something unethical or illegal they need not be afraid of what will happen to themselves and tell someone who can help them. Being professional means not being afraid to stand up for what you believe and not being bullying into doing something illegal just because your boss told you so. I believe the more experience you gain the workplace the higher your professional level becomes....
