HEALTHY EATING PLAN 2 Healthy Eating Plan Up until this assignment I never really gave any thought to what I was eating. Whether it was how much I ate or if I was even eating the correct amounts of food from each of the food groups. In grade school we learned about the four basic food groups, which then it was meats and beans, grains, fruits and vegetables, and dairy. There are five food groups because they split up fruits and vegetables. It is not until junior high and high school that we are taught how much of each we should eat. The sad thing is hardly anyone sticks to these guidelines, myself included. Kids rely on their parents to make sure they get the nutrients they need to grow, but what kind of example are we setting if we ourselves do not even eat right? After all we are supposed to set an example. Throughout the course of this paper I will talk about my eating habits, what I can do to eat healthier, and I will even talk about foods that are nutrient rich and foods that lack essential nutrients. Like most of the people who live in the United States I do not pay much attention to what I eat. If I go out to east I do not think to myself, am I going to go over my daily calorie intake? No, all I am thinking is man this food is good. With that in mind after doing the food diary for those three days I realized that my eating habits are not good at all. The sad thing is my eating habits are worse when I am at home compared to when I am at work. I only did the food diary for the three days, two of which I was off from work. On the first day I consumed 2348 calories for the day, on the second day I almost doubled my calorie intake to 4265. For my age, height, and weight my daily intake should be at 2500. So one of those days I was semi ok and the other I was way over. The reason I said semi ok is because I lacked eating right; meaning I hardly had any vegetables and or very little dairy products. As for the one day in my food diary which I worked my calorie intake was 1640, which is well below the 2500 that I should have. The only
