How important is a credit score? There are many mistakes made that can affect the rest of our lives, lowering our credit score is one of them. This may be the most influential one and the hardest to correct. A credit score is a numerical expression based on a statistical analysis of a person’s credit files. People are judged by their credit scores for everything from applying for a job to buying a home. Is it fair that a person will pay the price for a mistake he or she may have made when a teen or young adult? My point of view is of a person who didn’t always make the best choices, but as I grew older I grew more responsible. It takes years to improve our credit score; I know this firsthand. I didn’t plan on becoming someone with a low credit score, but life happened. I lost my job, discovered I was pregnant, lost my apartment, and much more. These events caused me to default on my payments. I wasn’t just charging debt and not paying, my household bills were what I was defaulting. I have since been working very hard to pay off all my debt. A lender most likely will look at my credit score and turn me down. Not looking at the debt to see that it was household bills, not a shopping spree at the mall. Many reasons can affect someone’s credit score such as being young and irresponsible, economy issues, and fraud, to name a few Someone who is young and irresponsible is just one example of why someone’s
