STAT2507A – Lab 5 – July 6, 2009 Introduction In this lab you will review items from lab 1 to 4 Exercises 1 Generate 1000 random numbers from a Pois(4) distribution. a) What is the shape of the distribution? Ans: use histogram to determine it is right skewed. b) What is the average, standard deviation, Q1, median, Q3? Ans: use descriptive statistics c) What proportion of the values are less than or equal to 4?  Ans: Use Tally individual values with cumulative percentage. d) What proportion of the values would you expect to be less than or equal to 4? Ans: Generate 62.9% from the Probability distribution plot function. Exercise 2    There are 20 persons in a Statistics Class. Thirteen are males and seven are females. Using Minitab, estimate the probability of selecting an equal number of females and males in a  sample of 10. ANS: Can do this by using the Probability distribution plot function for hypergeometric
