STAT2507A – Lab 7 – July 20, 2009 Introduction This lab will continue the work on the NLSCY survey from last lab (see last lab for more details  on the NLSCY). Exercises 1 – constructing a confidence interval Produce a confidence interval for the average weight of 16-17 year olds in kilogram using the  sample.   Steps: 1) Import data. Review questionnaire. Find relevant variable. Deal with missing values.  (see previous lab) 2) Confidence intervals can be calculated from the Stat->Basic  Statistics -> 1 Sample Z. 3) To calculate the confidence interval using the 1 Sample Z, the population standard  deviation is required. Typically, the population standard deviation is estimated by the  sample standard deviation. Exit the 1 Sample Z dialogue and get an estimate for the  sample standard deviation (Use: descriptive statistics). 4)
