STAT2507A – Lab 8 – July 27, 2009 Introduction This lab will continue the work on the NLSCY survey from lab 6 (see lab 6 for more details on  the NLSCY). Exercises 1 – constructing a confidence interval Produce a test of the hypothesis that the average weight of 16-17 year olds is 65 kilogram using  the sample with an alpha = 5%. Steps: 1) Import data. Review questionnaire. Find relevant variable. Deal with missing values.  (see previous labs) 2) A hypothesis test on a mean can be done using Stat->Basic Statistics->1 Sample z. 3) To conduct the test using the 1 Sample Z, the population standard deviation is required.  Typically, the population standard deviation is estimated by the sample standard  deviation. Exit the 1 Sample Z dialogue and get an estimate for the sample standard  deviation (Use: descriptive statistics). 4)
