Do Women Have Equal Access to Leadership Opportunities? INTRODUCTION Much of women’s role over the past centuries has been mostly unrecognized due  to the fact that leadership has been viewed as a gender-biased position. Often women  are known for leading in taking care of their families’ well-being and necessities for  development. Throughout history, women’s role has been widely viewed as just ordinary  and domestic work and did not qualify as  leadership role. In the last several decades,  more women have taken significant leadership roles particularly at middle and upper  management positions. BODY Slowly but surely, women are breaking the so called glass ceiling and are making  significant contributions in their leadership roles within their organizations. Women  already exist in a lot of leadership positions but not all women were given access to  these leadership roles. There were many that were turned away and there aspirations

for leadership vanished. These women faced strong resistance and encountered  difficulties in the male-dominated world.  During her speech at Salt Lake City’s 100th year anniversary, Dr. Musimbi  Kanyoro, the Secretary General of Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA),  talked about the steps to take for making women’s leadership more visible. The first  step is to find the missing women in leadership by looking for them in the right places.  The second is to affirm them by acknowledging that what women are doing is invaluable  and central to making the world a better place. That recognition becomes the foundation  on which to build an argument that women’s experience in leadership can affect positive
