I. Membrane structure: all are made of a phospholipid bilayer with proteins embedded (integral proteins) or attached to the surface (peripheral proteins). This arrangement is called the _____ ______ model. Generally which of the 3 types of amino acid would you expect to be touching the phospholipid tails? What bonds form there?
Image of page 2
Evidence for the fluid mosaic model is that freeze- fracture studies show embedded proteins.

Evidence for the fluidity (movement) is shown by tracing movements of fluorescently labeled integral proteins. Not an accurate representation because there many membrane proteins are present in over 100,000 copies per cell. And there are many types of membrane proteins on a cell.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
