Spring 2011 EEE472/591 – Power Electronics and Power Management Raja Ayyanar Homework 6 Due: Thursday, April 21 Problem 1: (30 points) Design the power transformer of a forward converter corresponding to the following specifications. Based on availability for a particular manufacturer, the choice of core is limited to one of the following three cores – EE20/10/6, EE35/18/10, and EE55/28/25. The corresponding datasheets are available at http://www.ferroxcube.com/prod/assets/ecores.htm . Input voltage: 36 – 72V, output voltage: 12V, maximum output current: 20A, switching frequency: 200 kHz. Make suitable assumptions. Problem 2: (30 points) Figure 1 shows an on-line UPS operating at unity power factor, consisting of two unipolar PWM full-bridges. The first PWM full-bridge operates in the rectifier mode with unity power factor and the second PWM full-bridge operates in the inverter mode.  155 2 60 200 in o batt V V sin t and V V  Apart from the load current, the rectifier needs to supply a battery charging current of 5A.
