GUIDELINES FOR ESSAY WRITING; Although there is no algorithm for writing a perfect essay there are some standard  guidelines that it is certainly useful to follow:  1. STRUCTURE. The single most important characteristic of a good essay is  that it is well structured. Before you start writing think of how to organise the  points you intend to cover. Clear, logical structure is essential. You may want  to announce in the first paragraph of your essay what you are planning to  write, and even briefly state the conclusion at which you plan to arrive.  Although this advanced announcement is not essential, it will help the reader  follow your reasoning and it will also help you to write in an organised,  disciplined way (for example, to avoid repetition). Before you start writing,  spend some time on planning  your essay. Each essay should have an  introduction, the main part discussing the topic, and a conclusion.  2. RELEVANCE OF THE INCLUDED MATTERIAL. Only include things that are  relevant for your essay. You will not gain any points by filling the gaps in your  knowledge with things you happen to know but which are not relevant for your  essay. Also, spend some time on thinking about what it is exactly that the  essay question requires you to do. Let me give you an example. In 2009 one
