MG 665 Managerial Communication Lesson #10 Assignment #3 Study the case, "Hal of Erhardt & Company: One Audit Senior’s Dilemma" on pages 206-209 of the text Management Communication: Principles and Practice (3rd Edition). The audit engagement described in this case really took place. The purpose of the case is less to describe how to behave with integrity in public accounting than to examine one way an individual's integrity may be put to the test. No one wants to put his career in jeopardy: Foreseeing what could happen and doing the right thing may help a young professional to face a real crisis and emerge stronger from it. On the surface, the case leaves no room for maneuvering. The reader is taken step-by- step through an audit engagement where little room for debate seems possible. The audit team is assembled in December and charged with carrying out a plan and procedures by January 15. Hal, the senior-in-charge, gradually realizes that the territory he has to traverse is not only unfamiliar, but apparently a live mine field. He has two options: to go
