MG665 Managerial Communication Lesson #4 Assignment #2 Answer the following questions concerning the case "Cuttyhunk Bank, Part II." Your response should be both thorough and succinct; be sure to use correct spelling and grammar. 1. How well does the May 14 (below) letter do its job? What should be the chief message and goals of the May 14 letter? In your view, will the letter achieve those goals? I believe it does a very poor job as it drones on and on with too much detail. The average customer will not likely understand all that it is trying to present. This will do nothing to alleviate the concerns of their depositors. The chief message should be that Cuttyhunk is currently a federal bank, but it would be advantageous to become a state bank again. Supporting statements would clearly state why and how the depositors would be affected. Moreover, it would reinforce that they have a voice in the process. I think the letter may further confuse the issue by providing too much detail. It does achieve the goal of inviting the customers to the meeting, but it offers too much information. The details can best be given in person, so they can be elaborated upon as needed. 2. Identify the main arguments (explicit or implicit) of the May 14 letter. Put yourself in the role of the bank’s members. Would you find the message and arguments of the letter clear and persuasive? Why or why not? At first, Wilson takes the defensive and argues that the public should not have seen the memo. This says nothing about the actual message in the memo. He needs to clarify that management did not agree with what was said rather than they did not approve of it
