1 Florida Appellate Practice Judge Philip J. Padovano Spring 2011 SYLLABUS AND CLASS INFORMATION This course meets for two credit hours in the spring. You will earn a numeric grade. Course Objectives This course will prepare you to handle an appeal or petition for review in a Florida appellate court. When you have completed the course, you will be able to identify the proper forum for review of any order; you will understand the concept of subject-matter appellate jurisdiction, as well as the requirements for invoking appellate jurisdiction; and you will understand the procedures for filing appeals and petitions for review, preparing the record, filing motions, writing and submitting briefs, and requesting and presenting oral argument. Materials We will be using materials I have prepared for the course. You may obtain a paper copy of the class materials at the copy center. An electronic copy is posted on Blackboard. You may use the electronic copy as a primary reference or you may make your own paper copy, as you wish.
