Kashney Welch AEB 3133 Principles of Agricultural Management Fall 2010 1.) The Agricultural Food System is a variety of different agricultural business firms and includes more than just farmers and ranchers but also includes input suppliers. Input suppliers are the part of the Agricultural Food System that prepares and sells things like feed, seed, fertilizer, and credit to farms and ranchers. It also includes producers that takes the inputs of a commodity and makes them into a finished product. It also includes the commodity processor that buys the commodity and sells it as a finished product. We also have the food manufacturers that prepare the food products to make a finished good such as processed eggs, the pasteurized milk to make bread and other baked goods. It lastly includes food retailers that sell the finished commodity, which range from the grocery stores to the restaurants. The Agricultural Food System is also increasingly used to capture the full dimension of interaction between all these parts as well. Each sector needs one another in order to actively play its role in this system. Everyday they provide Americans with approximately six pounds of food, they bring us around 1,000 new food
