New Momism and the Mommy Myth Part I: This article focused on the unattainable views of how a mom should act based on the media and society. It also explored ways in which this unrealistic view of a proper mother creates a sense of doubt for some mothers and makes them feel like a bad parent. The media is always suggesting ideas about how to raise your kids and all the dangers out there that can affect children. This ultimately makes mothers worried about the safety of their children all the time and makes them think that because they aren’t doing some certain thing that the media tells them to they are bad mothers. The authors talked about how now-a-days motherhood is a competitive sport. There is an ongoing competition to see who the best mother is by who has the smartest and most athletic kid, who buys their child the best toys, and who has the best parenting skills. The article said that in a survey “81 percent of women…said it’s harder to be a mother then it was twenty years ago and 56 percent felt mothers were doing a worse job today then mothers
