Miami recruitment for in-state students By Hannah Roberts People from all over the country and even other parts of the world attend Miami University. How do people hear of this college in the small town of Oxford, Ohio? High schools closer to Miami, such as St. Xavier, Anderson High School and Ursuline Academy, don’t need to inform their students about Miami because all of the students are already aware of Miami. In 2008, 10 students from Anderson attended Miami but the average is usually seven per year. Amy Hermans, counselor from Ursuline Academy, said the need for her to suggest Miami as a college to her students is small because Miami is so close, “everyone knows about it.” About 20 kids each year from Ursuline Academy go to Miami. Debbie Shoenhoft, counselor at St. Xavier, said her students research Miami by themselves. About 50 students from St. Xavier come to Miami each year. Miami is only an hour away from Cincinnati so the residents are well aware of its reputation. If the students have questions about
