Isolationism-U.S. claimed to have foreign policy on non-intervention and neutrality in foreign affairs. U.S. was a burgeoning imperialist empire. This caused the U.S. to find it increasingly difficult to present itself as being neutral in WWI & WWII. 2. Nazi Soviet Non-Aggression Pact- non aggression pact between Germany and Soviet Union pledged neutrality by either party if the other were attacked by a third party. Each signatory promised not to join any grouping of powers that was “directly or indirectly aimed at the other party.” 3. Pearl Harbor/U.S. Declaration of War- the Japanese navy conducted a strike on the U.S. navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This event happened December 7, 1941. This caused the U.S. to become involved in World War I I. The surprise attack caused Americans to change how they felt about isolation and they wanted direct participation in the war 4.
