When the first Freedom Riders arrived in Anniston, Alabama, they met a mob of violent whites . 3. In Birmingham, one Freedom Rider from Grand Rapids, Michigan was paralyzed for life . 4. Diane Nash intervened when the Freedom Riders, urged by the Kennedy Administration, decided to give up on their plan to ride all the way to New Orleans . 5. Nash argued that the ride must go on regardless of the associated violence . 6. Clearly Bull Connor, sheriff of Birmingham, was complicit with those who attacked the Freedom Riders because he arrested the riders with a smile . 7. Justice Department official, John Siegenthaler, arrived at the Birmingham bus station in time to get his skull fractured with a lead pipe . 8. After the Birmingham horror, MLK showed up and began to negotiate with the Kennedy administration instead of including Nash in the inner circle
