What is Multicultural Education? And Why is it Important? Multicultural Education is a reform movement designed to make some major changes in the education of students. Multicultural Education theorists believe that many school, college, and university practices related to race and ethnicity are harmful to students and reinforce many ethnic stereotypes and discriminatory practices within society.

The Goals of Multicultural Education Continued Another Goal is to provide all students with the skills attitudes and knowledge needed to function within their ethnic culture, within main stream culture, and within and across other ethnic cultures. Furthermore, a goal of multicultural education is to reduce the pain and discrimination that members of some ethnic and racial groups experience because of their unique racial, physical, and cultural characteristics. Lastly, the goal of multicultural education is to help students to master essential reading, writing and math skills.
