ART NOTES Post Exam 1: Development of photography -“I have found a way of fixing images of the camera!” LJM Daguerre to Charles Chevalier at his Paris optical shop. Early 19 th century. Pinhole effect- sun projected through gaps between leaves Camera obscura- “dark room”, developed in 15 th century used as drawing aid (image didn’t last) Abelardo Morell takes pictures of these projects rooms are created so people can see this from inside - Daguerrotype : invented by Louis Daguerre in 1837 in France originally took 30 minutes to develop image explosion of people wanting selves photographed (threat to artists) direct-positive process: produces only 1 image, with crisp detail, 3D effect uses mercury so it is a dangerous process (iron center tripod, develop plate with heated gild plate with gold chloridel?) presented in a fancy case/box - Calotype : Invented by William Henry Fox Talbot on 1840 in England positive-negative process, which allows for multiple prints, just paper
