Thickness of concrete to be removed: (1)When the recycled concrete is to be used as a base material, the entire slab can be removed and reused. (2)When the recycled concrete is to be used as an aggregate in Portland cement concrete, usually 80% of the slab is removed. This is to avoid excessive fines. Primary crusher to reduce the concrete to 6-inch size

Unformatted text preview: Steel removal by hand at conveyor belt Steel removal by an electromagnet at conveyor belt Secondary crushers crush the concrete into proper size depending on anticipated uses for the material. Recycled Concrete as aggregate for Portland Cement Concrete: The strength and durability of the concrete produced are limited by those of the old concrete. Generally has a higher absorption, a lower specific gravity, and a lower strength than a normal natural aggregate. FDOT spec. allows a maximum L.A. Abrasion Loss of 50% for recycled concrete aggregates (versus 45% for natural aggregates). Extra natural sand (20 25%) is usually added to improvement the workability of the fresh concrete. PCC using recycled concrete as aggregate can be placed as normal concrete. Recycled concrete pavement in Iowa The recycled concrete can be used to produce the econocrete used in composite pavements (made up of normal concrete over econocrete)...
