Describe a method that could be used to separate the components of the following (2 marks each): a) Sand and iron filings – Magnetic separation because the iron fillings are magnetic. b) Sawdust and lead pellets – flotation because the sawdust will float while the lead pellets will sink. c) Salt and glass particles – Decantation because the salt would dissolve and the glass would not. d) Silt (water and fine soil particles) – Decantation because that is the one that works best when trying to separate things from a mixture where the main component is water.
