For each of the following, list at least 5 physical properties and 2 chemical properties it possesses: (7 marks each) a) An iron nail – Physical: Grey colour, Metallic, Solid, Odourless, Insoluble in Water. Chemical: it rusts when in damp air and when exposed to acid, it dissolves quickly. b) A match – Physical: It is a solid, it is thin, it is not bendable as it will break, it is usually a beige colour, and smooth. Chemical: Burns when the tip is struck against a rough surface, it catches on fire. The wood burns with this fire and an odour is released. c) Sugar – Physical: White crystals, Solid, Hard, Soluble in water, Odourless. Chemical: Becomes caramel when melted, Can be burned and turns black. 21 marks 2. Indicate which physical change occurs in each of the following situations: a) Carbon dioxide snow disappears. - Fusion b) Butter is left in the sun. - Fusion c) Frost forms on a window pane. – Condensation d) Liquid candle wax falls on the ground and cools. – Solidification
