Biome Rainfall Activity Date: April 21, 2011 Subject: Math Grade: 2 nd Standards of Learning: 2.9 The student will create and solve one-step addition and subtraction problems using data from simple tables, picture graphs, bar graphs, and practical situations. GENERAL OBJECTIVES: NCTE #3 Students apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. They draw on their prior experience, their interactions with other readers and writers, their knowledge of word meaning and of other texts, their word identification strategies, and their understanding of textual features. NCTE #5 Students employ a wide range of strategies as they write and use different writing process elements appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes. Introduction: The students will have previous lessons working on reading a and liquid in a beaker. A group of four students will work together on this assignment. It will work as a type of “lab.” Each group will receive a packet. One handout will have the names of the biomes on it with the average rainfall level of the winter and summer labeled and displayed by water in a beaker. The
