Lesson Plan Names: Kelsey Nelson, Samantha Lisi, Crystal Carnish, Danise Batista, Katie Horvath Date: April 20, 2011 Subject(s): Science/Writing Grade: 3 rd SOL(s): Science 3.8 The student will investigate and understand the basic patterns and cycles occurring in nature. a) Patterns of natural events (day and night, seasonal changes, phases of the moon, and tides); and b) Animal and plant life cycles Language Arts 3.10 - The students will write stories, letters, simple explanations, and short reports across all content areas. General Objective(s): Students employ a wide range of strategies as they write and use different writing process elements appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes. Introduction: The teacher will reflect with students about what they learned earlier in the week about the RAFT strategy of writing and about all of the different life cycles, but about the plant life cycle in particular and the affect the seasons have on life cycles. Students will work to incorporate writing into today’s science lesson by creating a RAFT on the life cycle process of a plant. Specific Objectives: Students will… 1. Review, with the teacher, the RAFT style of writing 2. Review, with the teacher, the different life cycles previously discussed, but specifically plant life cycles and how the seasons affect them.
