Unformatted text preview: The Accuracy of Measurements What is Reliability?- it is the extent to which a measure yields the same results on repeated trials.- the more consistent the results given by repeated measurements, the higher the reliability of the measuring procedure. The less consistent the results, the lower the reliability.- Example: counting a stack of paper ballots for a public office. The first time you count them, you get a certain number, and your not so sure you counted them correctly. Maybe you were interrupted or some of the papers were stuck together. So just to be on the safe side, you count again, but this time you get a different number. So you count them maybe two more times and just to be definite this time you ask someone to count behind you. The similarity of the results would be an indicate of the reliability of the measure.
