Exam format: 40 multiple choice questions Extra office hours: Thursday 2/17 2-3 pm Friday 10 am 11 am Email if you are coming so I can prepare accordingly Ctools chat each day Exam 1 Details and Preparation Exam 1: Tuesday February 22 nd o Scantron exam #2 pencils only (and erasers) o 50 mins. for 40 Multiple Choice questions o During the exam: Sit every other seat Exam Study Strategies: o Use topic outline to focus your studying Not just definitions or flash cards; very conceptual Study concepts in own words; be able to identify examples! Read question & develop answer before looking at options! Youll be in good shape Exam 1 Details and Preparation How to study Focus heavily on material from lecture, section, and Ctools readings Compare/ swap lecture notes with someone else The study guide is closely tied to the exam questions, so be able to explain each answer from the study guide Ctools readings Understand the key take points, findings and any terms defined Dont worry about specific details such as number of participants, location of research The outlines I post will help, but you will need to read the articles to answer some questions Exam 1 Details and Preparation How to ask questions about the study guide Post questions on the Ctools chat Answer each others questions Students who actively participate in asking and answering questions can help their participation scores I will check in once a day and clarify things and answer any unanswered questions Reading Discussion: 2 CTAs (Baumeister; Lee) &Self-Presentation (Baumeister) Overview: Self-Presentation Career trajectories have an inherent social component Self-presentation plays a role in achieving individual goals o Others perceptions matter (e.g., evaluations, connections) o Work image creates and defines the self; gives meaning to life Definitions of self-presentation: impression management; the creation of appearances; communicating the self to others to actively influence their perceptions o Presenting oneself in the best possible light o Informing superiors of achievements and goals o Nominating self for tasks and challenges Practice Reading Question Short answer: Baumeister article Which organizational characteristics lead to increased political behavior and self-presentation strategies?
