GIS 3650-001 25 April 2014 Professor Sedia My Lesson When we started reading the first book, The Arrogance of Humanism , I was very curious what that meant. To me that title didn’t make much sense, and I knew that arrogant people did exist in the world, but I wasn’t sure how we all got categorized as arrogant. It was then that through group discussions everything came together in an estranged epiphany, people are terrifying creatures. Not only do we mutilate the only world we were given, but also we manipulate the people and animals around us to form what is in theory a “perfect society.” Somehow overtime humans began to climb the natural order and God only knows how we have not been killed off yet, I am actually in shock that hasn’t happened yet. Naturally we are pretty useless animals, so for us to now have some sort of power over all living things is mind-boggling. Now before I start to ramble off on that topic, this course taught me that you have to educate yourself about your surroundings and trust people a whole lot less. If given the chance humans will turn on everyone and everything if it means a single individual can benefit. To begin the environment is without doubt a dangerous place. There are millions of obstacles on a physical as well as micro level that we should all have a general idea about. When discussing the various diseases around the world we also talked about the people who caused the issue and why. For example when the machupo virus came into play, it was from people migrating to an area they were unfamiliar with, destroying a group of people’s homes and plowing down land to
