Corporate Culture Corporate culture: o Organization’s set of shared assumptions about the way things are done o Shared values/ norms/ beliefs about way things are done (and the related behavioral patterns) Why should we care? o Look at AIG, Fannie Mae, etc. Impact of culture on mergers and acquisitions: o Can lead to clashes such as Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler Impact on your career decisions: o Work vs. life balance, attitudes, etc. Cultures within cultures: o Work unit cultures o Hierarchical level cultures Corporate culture comes from: o Organization’s founder o A strong leader o Reactions to a crisis o Strategic decisions (least effective) What should we examine? o Visible events/ actions/ behaviors
