Questions for Hospers. 1. Both highly value freedom. Both principles are very vague. Hospers’s doctrine is much more vague than Mills. How does this principle lead to these conclusions? Cars should not be sold legally that pollute. Pg. 430 Movie theater owners are free to remove anyone from the theater as long as they are refunded. 2. Libertarians believe in a very limited government. All we need from government is for them to protect our rights to property. The problem with the argument is the idea that people should be able to opt out of any tax that they disapprove of. The only just taxes are those that have a unanimous consent. Is inconsistent with the idea that individuals are sovereign, however we need government, but decisions must be made unanimously. 3. Why does Hospers contend that “without property rights not other rights are possible”? People have property in their bodies and the fruits of their labor so it is the most important right. 4. Government has been the chief enemy to the right of property.
