Public and Private Schools Fallacy 1- Private schools are better than public. Fallacy 2- More likely to go to college. Type 1 1. run by Roman Catholic Church 1. 85% of all private schools in America 1. There are a lot in the inner city-they do good with these kids 1. In the suburbs, it looks like any other public school- the same things are taught. 1. $2500- $12000 1. Religion is woven into the material. 1. Not coed, uniforms Type 2 1. The quintessential private school. 1. Old 1. Boarding school 1. College prep curriculum 1. Setting is beautiful 1. Some of most famous people go to this- very expensive 1. $30,000 Type 3 1. Country or day in the title 1. Day school 1. $15-20000 1. Located in country or near a country club 1. College prep 1. Professional-upper middle class “Schools of Polite White Flight” Type 4 1. Adopted nice names for marketing 2. Just like Type 3 3. Founding in 1970-1973-why? Desegregation and busing actually came into affect 4. Swann vs. Char Meck BOE- 1971- authorized the use of busing to transport students
