No Child Left Behind (2001) This is to educate and punish, not how to reach the next grade level Amendment to the education act of 1964 Not a voucher system-bi-partisian effort- widely supported by Republicans and Democrats. All students will be given tests at the beginning of the school year and at the end n reading and math. How much has the student progressed? And are youreading at grade level? (EOGs0 By 2014, every child will be reading at grade level First group to benefit- publishers of tests Does it encourage teaching the test?- Yes., -may or may not be bad if students are improving -You lose a lot of time- do not spend it on other things- disproportionate amount of time on the test. How do schools do? Arts have suffered greatly because there is not enough time and physical educatiom. History is also losing out, This programs money could be spent on things that are more productive. Math and reading are life skills- not history or science.
