Stonehenge It is located in a slight basin in the Salisbury Plain in England. (refer to Stonehenge Revealed for a map) The Avon River is to the North- Northeast. It is one of several stone structures in the area- Cursus, Normanton Downs, Durrington Walls, Woodhenge. Windmill Hill - where most of the sarcen stones we derived from. Blue stones came from the south of Stonehenge, near Normanton Downs. There are three relationships in Stonehenge: o Parts to the whole- how it relates to it self o How people acted, situated themselves and walk towards it o Building to nature- terrestrial and celestial Phase 1- The Earthwork Monument (Moon and the eclipses) 3000BC-2100 BC Windmill Hill Culture - these were the P1 people. They would travel back and forth from their civilization to Stonehenge. They practiced horticulture, were semi-nomadic and domesticated animals. A circular ditch, 300ft in diameter, was resurrected about 4-6 feet deep with embankments on both sides that were about 4-6 feet high. The embankments had
