Republic- a representative democracy in which the peoples elected deputies  (representatives), not the people themselves, vote on legislation Confederation- a loose union of independent or semi-independent political units  of government.  The role of the central or main unit of government is to govern  the relations between the units and hold the confederacy as one nation or state. Parliamentary democracy – a system of government in which the legislature.  Selects the government (prime minister, premier, etc.) according to party  strengths based on elections. Democracy – a system of government where the people vote on all matters of
