How much is your life worth? How much is your health worth? Once you have decided what the value of your life and health equal to, add that to the value of your family’s health and lives. Does the total worth of your family and yourself come out to be an “unnecessary and expensive push”? Politicians believe the conversion to clean energy to be unnecessary. The major contributor to our nation’s energy is coal. Coal is burned in order to be used for energy. The burning of coal creates several health risks that are deemed dangerous for our environment, wildlife, and our health. When burning coal, pollutants such as oxides of sulfur and nitrogen damage and harm cardiac and respiratory health. These damaging products enter deeply into people's lungs, contributing to heart disease deaths. Toxic components of coal such as mercury settle onto land and in waterways, making it easy for entrance into the food chain causing damage to people's nervous systems.
