Racial and Ethnic Groups Most ethnic groups that originate in another country make a decision to migrate to the United States for one reason or another. The ethnic group that I belong to is African Americans who did not colonized in the United States they immigrated involuntarily African Americans did not have that choice when they were brought to the United States as slaves. Not until recently, people of African descent have not been counted as part of America migratory tradition. In history it shows that African American men women and children were brought to the United States by American men as slaves in 1619. The Africans became indentured servants, similar in legal positions to many poor Englishmen, who traded several years’ labor in exchange for passage to America (Becker, Eddie (1999) Chronology on the History of Slavery). African Americans cooked, cleaned, pick cotton and other hard labor without pay and just enough food so that they could survive and keep working. African women were also used as sex slaves for some of the slave masters, babies were produced and the mixed children were always treated better.
