white folks did. The 14 th amendment also allowed African Americans the right to vote and protection under the law. The amendment also prohibits payment to the confederacy for any debt owed and it also denies people who fought in rebellion against the United Constitution to hold a public office position. The Fourteenth Amendment affected the African Americans because a lot of people did not want to obey by the law and give them equal rights. They did not want them in the schools with the white folks or to vote. The white folks just thought African Americans were to be there slaves and do what they told them to do. The Southern States did everything they could not allow
