Chapter 10: The Jacksonian Era  1. As the Democratic Party's first president, he claimed the legacy of Thomas  Jefferson by appealing to the common man. Andrew Jackson 2. President of the Bank of the United States at the time of Jackson's attack  on that financial institution. Nelson Biddle 9. Expansionist candidate who won the presidency back for the Democrats in  1844. James Polk 10. By the end of the 1820s, the right to vote: had moved significantly toward universal manhood suffrage for whites.
