Extradition: The surrender by one state or nation to another state or nation of a person who is charged with a crime in the requesting state. Habeas Corpus: A writ that orders the custodian of a prisoner to appear in court and explain why the individual is being held in confinement. International Extradition: Extradition of a fugitive from another country subject to the extradition treaties between the two countries. Rendition: Another name for interstate extraditions. Unlawful Flight Statute: Fleeing the jurisdiction of a court to avoid criminal proceedings. Writ: A mandatory precept (warrant), under seal, issued by a court and commending a person to whom it is addressed to do or not to do some act.
