Food Intake 3 2 Food Intake – Three Days Paper The writer of this paper recorded his daily food intake during the days of April 20, 2011 through April 22, 2011. The food intake was then recorded onto iProfile and compared against my dietary reference intake (DRI). This paper will discuss the intake of protein, carbohydrates, lipids, and compare the macronutrient ranges; compare fiber intake ranges; and if the writer of this paper needs to make dietary modifications. Protein, Carbohydrates, Lipids, and Macronutrient Ranges Based on the results from the food journal, the average protein intake was 72 grams, or 89% of what the total intake for protein should be. The average carbohydrate intake was 207 grams, or 57% of total daily intake for carbohydrates. The average lipids were 79 grams, or 97% of the recommended total intake. When comparing the total intake for protein, carbohydrates, and lipids against the writer of this paper’s DRI, the diet is labeled as unhealthy, for protein and carbohydrate levels are low. Of concern is the deficiency of carbohydrates in the diet. A diet low in carbohydrates can rob the body of energy, for the human body uses carbohydrates as a source of energy. A prolonged diet low in carbohydrates can lead the body into ketosis, which is the result of a rise in acids and a drop in pH levels of the blood. Ketosis can have a negative effect on the kidneys.
