Fall 2010 ITIS 1P97 Assignment 1 Question 1 Q 2.19 a) The probability that exactly 13 new people visit the site in a one minute interval is P(x=13) = 0.0296 (1 mark) Q 2.19 b) The probability that at least 5 new visitors come to the site in a one- minute interval is 1 - P(x<=4) = 1 – 0.0996 = 0.9004 (0.5 mark) Q 2.19 c) The probability that between 5 and 10 new visitors arrive at the site in a one-minute interval is P(x<=10) – P(x<=5) = 0.8159 - 0.1912 = .6247 (text solution) Or P(x<=10) – P(x<=4) = 0.8159 - 0.0996 = .7163 (including 5 and 10) Or P(x<=9) – P(x<=5) = 0.7166 - 0.1912 = .5254 (excluding 5 and 10) (0.5 mark) Q 2.19 d) The probability that 8 or fewer new visitors come to the site in a one- minute interval is P(x<=8) = 0.5925 (0.5 mark) Q 2.19e) Frequency and cumulative frequency charts (1 mark) Note – The range of numbers chosen by the student may vary.
