Garrett Johnson January 22, 2009 Intercultural communications What are my learning goals for this class? I never really thought about this question before. Usually when people look at general education classes they don’t expect to retain the knowledge that they learn. They just read the chapters, take the test, and move on. Well, since you asked the question I guess there’s something I would want to gain from this class. This class can benefit me when I’m actually with someone from another country. I would want to know the right things and the wrong things to do with that person from that country. One of my goals for this class is to be able to recognize the norms of other countries. Unformatted text preview: do things differently than from people in Brazil. I dont want to put my hand out for a hand shake and they look at me funny! I know people in South America have conversations a lot closer to each other than people in North America. So, I dont want to be the one that speaks from farther away. I would want to learn about other cultures so I can deal with culture shock. Learning about other cultures can help culture shock because you would know the cultural norms, rituals, and taboos. If I dont know these certain things the people of the country Im in would look at me stupid or give me a hard time. I would want to be ready for anything the country throws at me. So my Goal is to learn as much as possible about the country Im about to visit....
