Idea that Learners must individually discover and transform complex information to make it their own (Anderson, et. al 2000) Term describes a process that is 6/1/11 Learners Constantly checking new information against old rules then Revisiting rules when they no longer work (Slavin, 2009) 6/1/11 Implications Learners are Active Activities are Student-centered Emphasis on learning processes, not 6/1/11 Why are errors mistakes? Errors viewed as insights into thinking processes (Smith & Elley, 1995) Term error is incompatible with this perspective Opportunities for multiple perspectives Error is inherent to the learning 6/1/11 Classrooms Create real-world environments Learning is relevant Solving real world problems Allowing social interactions, allowing children to talk in class Students need opportunities to express personalities, self-selection 6/1/11...
