WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT American Imperialism was in many ways a knee-jerk reaction due to what the other nations of the world were doing at the time. Other countries were growing their broader and territory, at the same time opening up new trade markets with other nation around the world. That meant we had to find markets and areas to obtain raw materials. Business was also looking at other areas in the world as potential customers for our products. The United States, starting in the late 1800's, for the first time, began to get heavily involved in the world stage. The US military, especially the Navy, was growing and expanding in other areas

Unformatted text preview: of the world where we had not had the ability to go in force before. As a world power we were to engage in many of these Imperialistic conquests. The United States was engaged in several expansion that including Hawaii, Philippines, and Cuba. As crazy as it sounds, the policy was largely rationalized because "everyone else was doing it." If the United States did not grow and expand in its territories and possessions, then everyone else would and the U.S. would be viewed as a weak power. Around this time the U.S. was first coming on to the world stage and eager to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with....
