Week 4-1 1968 was called the Summer of Hate but I think it should have been called the Summer of Hell. The country had a lot going on with the Vietnam War was going strong and early on 31 January 1968, North Vietnamese forces attacked 27 of South Vietnam's 44 provincial capitals and scores of villages. Take advantage of a truce declared for the annual lunar New Year celebrations, it completely failed to prompt an uprising they were looking for. 31 March1968 President Lyndon B. Johnson announces he will not seek re-election because Johnson was concerned that he might not make it through another term with a war kills thousand, the civil rights movement here at home and unrest in the south. 4 April 1968 Martin Luther King, Jr. is shot dead at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee which started riots throughout the country that lasting for several days. So now the President gives up, a major Civil Rights leader is assassinated, and riots in major cities. U.S. presidential candidate

In 26 August 1968 was the stated of the 1968 Democratic National Convention for the next Presidential candidate but it became a show of brute force by the Chicago police for a large number of demonstrators. The rioting was well publicized by the media , with some journalists and reporters also being caught up in the violence. Chicago protester was upset with the War in Vietnam, equal right for blacks the killing of Martin Luther King, Jr a strong Civil Right Leader and a big supporter of the Civil Right Movement presidential candidate Robert F.
