MGMT 251 ABB Case Instructions – Spring 2009 All students should read the case and be prepared to discuss it in class on Thursday, 1/22. Students who have selected this case as an option in their grading contracts should submit written answers to the questions below by the beginning of class on Thursday, 1/22. Implementing the ABB Organization Structure Question 1 : If you were in ABB’s corporate communications department and preparing a speech for Barnevik to deliver to employee groups, what points about the new organization would you emphasize in his communications? Include: The key actions Barnevik took to prepare for the merger of Asea and BBC and why these actions were important. How the new ABB organization works. Explain the key roles of: o Level managers o Middle level country and BA managers o Front line company and business unit managers What Barnevik is trying to achieve with such a complex model.
